Obviously my biggie, Comrades Marathon is on Sunday, 3 June 2012 and is 89km. Let the countdown begin!
This year’s race is a down run, so we will be running from Pietermaritzburg to Durban.
Looking forward to seeing you on the route!
Plans for 2012
This year my goal is to improve on my Comrades 2011 time of 6:38. The plan is to do a bit of speed work in the form of time trialss, interval sessions and tempo runs. I will also use some of the shorter distance events to improve my racing speed! I would also like to raise funds for my charity iThemba Projects who are doing great work in the Sweetwaters community close to where I live. Check out my page on the DoIt4Charity website and donations can be done there as well.
Shaun Meiklejohn & iThemba Projects
IThemba Projects is an organisation founded with the prospect of helping the people of the Sweetwaters community, which include training, resources and support for the education support. They are a Christian organisation and wish to share the message of Christ with the younger generation
With a track record of winning the Comrades Marathon in 1995, and overall winning 10 Gold Medals and 13 Silver, Shaun Meiklejohn has proven that he has what it takes to be a professional runner. He has run many other ultra-marathons, including quite recently a 100km in Holland.
Run4Africa was started in 2009 with the aim of raising money for iThemba Projects through Shaun Meiklejohn visiting schools& other organisations, using his running ability to raise money. In the period of the 2010 Comrades Marathon, Shaun raised in excess of R30 000. With this great achievement, there was no way he could stop then, and decided to do the same thing for 2011 Comrades. With this also being a great excess, Shaun is continuing to raise money for iThemba Projects in 2012.
